The series is popular, the fans keep buying (even terrible ports at launch as this one), many of the people who worked on CT and left SE made their own projects with measurable success (Another Eden looks like the CT remake with another name, heck, even it even uses 1 guy, 2 girls, 1 robot/android and FROG). I am not the first person at all to suggest that SE could have bought Crissom Echoes for pennies and sold it for a couple of bucks for what would seem to be an easy net profit (that's why the comparision to Valve's CS and Microsoft's MW), but they didn't. (I personally note that this was done after the Square-Enix merge, Chrono Cross was still 100% Squaresoft owned) The core of my comment is, why the SE management doesn't want to work in the series? Hiromichi Tanaka, Yasunori Mitsuda, and Hironobu Sakaguchi have hinted or directly said that the managment at SE interfered with any plans to make a sequel after Chrono Cross or downright cancelled the projects, like Break. But by 2009 it was obvious that they were not ,and will not, going to make another game of the series ever. Also, SE had a good reason to cancell it back then (2004) as there was still a small chance to get Chrono Brake done. Resurrection was another story, as it didn't get very advanced to start with. They can what? As I said, Crismo Echoes got finished and distributed anyway, and SE didn't get a cent out of it nor they were able to prevent it despite their C&D letters, it's easy to find a copy of that ROM. I think I'm not understanding your comment. This is what happens when 'fanmade' is made and distributed in such a way.īut no worry, ct's 3d remake justice will still come in even in pseudo-form.

Well it IS their IP and they can, no matter how much it hurts your feelings. Also, Crimson Echoes it is not hard to find despite al the C&D letters of the world. Originally posted by binakalgo:What SE did with Ressurection C&D because they still think they can control the market.

The soundtrack for Chrono Resurrection is available for download, and it's amazing. Their fan project fell constituted fair use and they didn't have to stop it Since the Chrono Resurrection team wasn't commercializing their project and wasn't using SE's game engine but was using their own created engine, there was nothing SE could possibly do against their project. publishers commonly use C&D's to intimidate and trick people into doing what the publisher wants them to, even though their C&D warnings, as with their EULAs, often have no legal standing. Sadly, the CR team was naive in announcing their project before it was ready for a release (which would avoid any threats of C&D interfering with its release), and was unaware that SE's legal threat was toothless and held no legal weight.ĮU highest court says software licence terms can be ignored
